Department of Electrical Power Engineering

Division of Power Networks and Systems

The scope of research of the Division of Power Networks and Systems:

  • simulation of power systems
  • real-time simulation of the power system (static and dynamic state estimation, system observability, topology verification, measurement data verification, taking into account the presence of FACTS systems)
  • digital simulations of steady and transient states of multi-voltage power systems using Matlab and Simulink
  • reactive power management in the power system (optimization of voltage and reactive power distribution, location of additional reactive power sources)
  • analysis of the voltage stability of the power system (methods of testing the voltage stability of transmission and distribution networks, quick determination of critical inclusions, stability indicators)
  • simulation of the frequency control of subsystems, including island transitions and re-synchronization
  • analysis of transients in power networks (overvoltages, short circuits, harmonics) with the use of PSCAD-EMTDC
  • analysis of higher harmonics in the power system (location of harmonic sources, resonance)
  • analysis of technical conditions of cooperation of MV grids with renewable sources
  • study of the impact on the low voltage grid of photovoltaic, hydro, wind and biogas micro-sources
  • intelligent power distribution networks and virtual power plants
  • smart metering, cybersecurity
  • identification, simulation and forecasting of the electrical load
  • methods of forecasting loads in microgrids
  • tariff systems, restructuring and deregulation in the electricity sector
  • electricity markets
  • research on demand-side response, load management and energy efficiency
  • artificial intelligence in power system
  • new electricity generation technologies
  • the efficiency of the processes of production, transmission, distribution and use of energy
  • technological systems use renewable energy in the energy market
